During a surprise ceremony in China, Lieut. Gen. Joseph W. Stilwell has the Distinguished Service Cross pinned on
by his son, Lieut. Col. Joseph W. Stilwell, Jr. The award, second highest of the U.S. Government, was conferred on
the general for extraordinary heroism and conspicuous bravery in action while in command of Chinese forces in Burma
during the spring of 1942.
